Hello, everyone! This Barbarian subclass was originally meant to be a revamp of the Path of the Behemoth from 2019. However, I felt this subclass’s “identity” was a bit muddier than originally intended, so I pivoted and ended up focusing on the mechanics of a “wrassle a monster into submission” Barbarian.
Path of the Titan Climber
Whether born into a violent world of dinosaurs or unexpectedly joining it, barbarians who follow the Path of the Titan Climber fight with the strength of their prehistoric ancestors to subdue massive creatures and bend them to their will.
Level 3: Climb Foe
You may attempt to grapple an enemy of any size. If the target is more than one size larger than you, its Speed is not reduced to 0, and can drag or carry you, but every foot of movement costs it 1 extra foot.
If you take damage while Grappling a creature more than one size larger than you, the Grappled condition ends on the target.
Level 3: Subdue the Beast
When you hit a creature you have Grappled larger than you with a melee attack, that creature must make a Constitution save (DC 8 plus your Strength modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the target has the Charmed condition for the next minute or until you or your allies damage it. While Charmed, the creature becomes your willing mount until you dismount. A creature Charmed in this way cannot cast spells or maintain Concentration. On a successful save, the target cannot be Charmed using this feature for the next 24 hours.
If you fall off your mount, you do not land with the Prone condition, and the mount ends the Charmed condition imposed by this feature.
When you begin a Short Rest, you and a Charmed mount may attempt a contested Constitution check. If you succeed, the mount becomes Friendly to you. If you fail, the mount bucks you, ends the Charmed condition, and cannot be Charmed by you again for the next 24 hours.
Level 6: Trample
While you are mounted, your mount may pass through spaces occupied by creatures smaller than it while moving, provided that it ends its movement in an empty space. Each creature the mount passes through in this way must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Strength modifier and Proficiency Bonus) or be knocked Prone and take Bludgeoning damage equal to your Rage damage.
Level 10: Primordial Beckon
While your Rage is active, as a Bonus Action, you can let loose a primal bellow to call a titan to your aid. A spirit resembling a creature you have previously Charmed with your Subdue the Beast feature appears, as your mount. The Spirit uses the statistics of the creature, except that its Creature Type is Fey, and it has a Hit Point Maximum equal to your Barbarian level. The Spirit disappears when your Rage ends.
14th level: Frenzied Titan
While you are mounted and your Rage is active, your mount receives the effects of your Rage as well.
